More Hours in the Day or Better Decisions?
March 10, 2008
You have probably said many times in your life, “I wish there were more hours in the day.” I hear it constantly, and don’t have much response anymore. It’s like… join the rest of the world. Oohhhh.
After thinking about it more, I don’t think you need more hours in the day. What you need is a maid. (Just joking, well kind of.) You need to be accountable for your day and your business decisions. You need to realize you made the decision to stand in line to get the coffee you wanted, which in turn made you late for a meeting. You decided to wake up late for work and miss breakfast. You decided..blah blah blah.
Okay, the above doesn’t really describe you. Fair enough. How about the amount of time you spend answering emails to the same questions? or time spent returning voice-mails? or scheduling appointments for customers?
Those choices reflect on your customer and they suffer in one way or another. Now, chances are, you will still continue to run a profitable business, and life will go on and customers will still come into your salon, massage therapy clinic, or your goalie school.
I would suggest selecting one or two things that are time consuming to your customers and make them your priority. If it is scheduling appointments because you are only open from 9 to 5, maybe implement an online appointment scheduling system like the 24hrAssistant. If customers keep asking the same questions over and over again, maybe focus on your website content.
I intuitively look at companies and think my experience would have been better if they had done this or that. I’m not trying to sound negative; I just love to have a great experience every time. I love when companies have made me their priority, because they know I am willing to keep coming back.
